Coordinate larger earthwork as one scope

Mass grading shapes a broader area of a site around its planned use. Cut and fill operations are part of that work: material movement and proposed grades need to be considered together. Balancing cut and fill starts with the proposed elevations, the suitability of existing soil and where material can be placed. The estimate should distinguish on-site reuse, imported fill and material that needs to leave the property.

Applications on larger properties and development sites

The work may support a development area, building site or other property improvement where existing ground must be reshaped. Share the project plans, proposed elevations and what the finished areas will be used for. Access and sequencing matter alongside the grades shown on a drawing.

Material movement and site constraints

Existing high and low areas, available space, access routes and the relationship to drainage can influence the earthwork discussion. Identify improvements to retain and any work happening nearby. Requirements for the project should be reflected in a clear written scope, including related work that is outside it.

Questions to settle before earthwork begins

  • Which drawing establishes finished grades and drainage outlets?
  • What fill materials and compaction requirements apply?
  • Who arranges any specified soil testing or engineering review?
  • Where can trucks travel, turn and unload without disturbing completed work?
  • How will unsuitable soil, rock or unexpected water be handled?

Knowing these details helps coordinate rough grading, utilities, building pads and the final surface without moving the same material twice.

Connect the detailed disciplines

See Commercial Site Development for integrated project delivery, Building Pad Construction for the pad-specific scope and Stormwater Management Systems for connected drainage needs.

Experience, communication and a clear scope

Redline Siteworks is built on 12 years of experience in excavation, site development and civil construction. Our owner is OSHA Certified and Project Management Certified. We plan each job around the actual site and communicate the proposed work in clear terms.

Warranty coverage is job-specific. Warrantied and non-warrantied scopes are identified in the written estimate/invoice documentation before work begins.
